When we found out our first child is going to be a girl, we decided it was time to get started on the name game… partly because we know she needs a name, and partly because it gets tiring trying to explain to people that we wanted to wait on the ultrasound to determine the sex before we got crazy trying to figure it all out. 2 names seems like too much work … 1 is hard enough. My criteria was a priority order of the meaning of the name being most important, and the sound of the name being second. Felicia also wanted to add the criteria that it not be a real popular name and somewhat creativeish. That’s a tall order, so I’m pretty surprised that we’re not still talking about it and working on a negotiation… we honestly spent like an hour reading different names one Saturday morning and pretty much agreed on it all at once. Crazy. So, here it is: Eva Lane Kennicott.
Eva: (like Eve) Firstborn, Giver of life
Lane: One who takes the narrow path
3 more months, and she’ll be here! We’re excited, blessed, and ready for parenthood (yet still learning, gaining wisdom, and realizing that it will take a lifetime, and we still won’t be all that we what we want to be for our children).

Ironically, one of the main characters in the most popular children’s movie of 2008 (Wall-E) was named Eva. I wonder if there will be more Evas than there would have been any other year.
I really like the name by the way. It’s beautiful and I’m sure it reflects the precious child that God is making her into.
I loved the ending as well. Perhaps could have figured it out if I tried but I believe it was very unpredictable.
Names are VERY important. My wife and I have 10 children, and we were very careful to give them names that suited, and not just glibly name them all something that rhymes or have them all with the same first initial. After all, God took the time to change Jacob’s name (Deceiver) to Israel (Perseverance).
Interesting..
Being a big fan of movies I pretty much watch all the new releases every month – was surprised by watchmen, not great reviews but i liked it!
