Kids and Parents :: A Few Quick Hits

1. Felicia and I went in for our 20 week ultrasound yesterday — our first child will be a girl! We’re praising God for a healthy, very active little girl that seems to be on track with everything in the womb so far. I took video of the ultrasound and talked to Felicia on the video, so when I get it all edited I’ll post it here.

2. This article was written a few weeks ago, but is fantastic — The Eschatology of Parenting by Russell Moore. Go check it out.

3. Check out this report that claims children are spending half (yes, that’s 1/2) the amount of time receiving educational instruction as they spend in front of a screen. Obviously, there are families that are the exception, and we hope to be one of them, but is it hard to see the negative effects of too much media in a person’s life, child or adult? Read some Neil Postman — he traces the history of television and other forms of media, and relates it to the downward turn of cultures. Convincing, compelling, and refreshing.

4. Monergism Books is having a sale on a new book called Get Outta My Face!: How to Reach Angry, Unmotivated Teens With Biblical Counsel — I’m excited to read it, especially based on the various endorsements the book has received. One of my top hits from search engines on this site is “prodigal children”, so I know it’s a much needed area of counsel and biblical wisdom.
